New Delhi: Lieutenant General R C Tiwari has taken over the command of Spear Corps from Lieutenant General JP Mathew. On assuming the charge, the new Commander conveyed his greetings to the people of the Northeast and wished them peace, prosperity and tranquillity in the times ahead.

In a tweet, the Indian Army said, "Lt Gen R C Tiwari took over as the General Officer Commanding of the coveted #SpearCorps from Lt Gen J P Mathew. On assuming command, the General Officer exhorted all ranks to continue working with utmost zeal & enthusiasm".

According to the Defence Ministry release, the General is an Infantry Officer and was commissioned in the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army in 1987. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College, College of Defence Management and the National Defence College.

Lt Gen Tiwari has held several prestigious Command and Staff assignments in conventional as well as Counter-Insurgency operations in India and abroad. He commanded an infantry battalion in Counter Insurgency Operations, Mountain Brigade in High Altitude and Black Cat Division as General Officer Commanding.

Prior to taking over this appointment, he was Chief of Staff in Headquarters South Western Command, Jaipur.
