New Delhi: The 51st Army Postal Service Corps Day was celebrated on Tuesday, 1 March 2022. During the event, the participants paid tributes to Brig. D.S. Virk, AVSM, founder of Indian Army Postal Service Corps. The APS was recognised as a separate Corps on March 1, 1972.

The Indian Army said in a tweet that Chief of the Army Staff General MM Naravane and all ranks of the Army convey best wishes to All Ranks, Veterans & Families of Army Postal Service Corps on the occasion of 51st Corps Day.

The APS is the only branch of the Indian Army where civilian officers from the Department of Post don army uniforms and serve as combatants. The Corps is headed by the Additional Director General at Army Headquarters in the rank of Major General.

The Ex-head of the APS Corps Major General Damodar Vasanth Mahesh was given Vishisht Sewa Medal this year on 26 January 2022.
