India-US to hold high-altitude military exercise; US Commander meets CoAS

New Delhi: US Army Pacific Commanding General Charles Flynn called on Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande in New Delhi Tuesday. Both sides discussed ways to further boost military cooperation. General Flynn, who is on a visit to India, also met the Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General BS Raju. The two officers discussed various aspects of India-US interest, according to an official.

The Army said in a tweet, "Charles A. Flynn, Commanding General United States Army Pacific #USARPAC called on General Manoj Pande #COAS & discussed aspects of Bilateral Defence Cooperation."

US top commander's visit to India comes amid a geopolitical turmoil triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Based on shared interest and democratic values, India-US bilateral relations have developed into a "global strategic partnership".

Later while interacting with a group of journalists, the Commander said both the Armies will train together this year at 9,000-10,000 feet to increase interoperability for high-altitude warfare.

He also termed China's build-up near Ladakh and strengthening of its military infrastructure as part of Beijing's 'corrosive and destabilising behaviour'.

The US Commander will visit the crucial Eastern Command on Wednesday.

When asked about the Chinese buildup along the Line of Control (LAC) and the construction of villages in Bhutan, the officer said he believed "that activity level is eye-opening".
