Australian Army Chief meets General Naravane to discuss bilateral defence cooperation

New Delhi: The Chief of Australian Army Lieutenant General Rick Burr on Wednesday called on the Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane in New Delhi. During the meeting they discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral military ties between the two countries.

The Indian Army said in a tweet, "Lieutenant General Rick Burr, Chief of @AustralianArmy called on General MM Naravane #COAS & discussed ways to further enhance the bilateral #DefenceCooperation between the two countries."

Australian Army Chief is on a two-days visit to India. He was extended a warm welcome by General Naravane on his arrival at South Block, New Delhi where he also received a Guard of Honour. Earlier, Lt Gen Burr laid a wreath at National War Memorial.

Indian and Australia are comprehensive strategic partners. The defence and security ties between the two countries have been on an upswing in the last few years. They are also part of the Quad grouping along with the U.S. and Japan. Australia participated in the recently concluded multilateral exercise MILAN 22 by the Indian Navy. Both the countries also participate in other exercises including AUSINDEX and Malabar.
