New Delhi: Troops Comforts Limited, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT-Delhi to develop smart protective clothing for the Indian Security Forces. As per the MoU, both organisations will work in the field of research and development of garments, equipment for security personnel deployed in high-altitude areas such as Siachen Glacier, protection from ballistic weapons and also the development of sensor fitted garments.

They will also set up a joint working group to facilitate the initiation of collaborative projects in fields such as smart textiles, defence applications, integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in TCL items and the development of futuristic infantry soldiers as a system.

Incorporated in August 2021, TCL is involved in the manufacture of life cycle clothing, extreme-cold climate items, special clothing and mountaineering equipment, supply drop equipment, water storage equipment, covers, tentages, leather items, and other related products.

All four factories of the Troops Comforts Limited – Ordnance Equipment Factory, Kanpur, UP; Ordnance Clothing Factory, Shahjahanpur, UP; Ordnance Clothing Factory, Avadi, TN and Ordnance Equipment Factory, Hazratpur, UP, will be utilised and will assign projects to IIT-Delhi as per their requirements.

On October 15 last year PM Modi had launched seven new defence PSUs. The names of the new seven defence PSUs are Munitions India Limited (MIL); Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI); Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India); Troop Comforts Limited (TCL) (Troop Comfort Items); Yantra India Limited (YIL); India Optel Limited (IOL); and Gliders India Limited (GIL).
