New Delhi: Delhi-based not-for-profit think tank SAPI (Security and Policy Initiatives) organised a webinar on Saturday, January 21 on ‘Leveraging 5G for Defence’. Lt Gen (Retd.) Rajeev Sabherwal former Signal Officer in Chief of the Indian Army and Communications Expert of the armed forces was the keynote speaker.
Beginning the webinar and welcoming SAPI’s Co founder Dr Sangeeta also an ex Bureaucrat said that while 5G promises endless IoT and AI-boosted applications in our day-to-day life, it is the military usage of 5G technology that is going to bring about mind-boggling changes in the face of future warfare. “You ignore and you lag behind. Pentagon is leveraging it, China already deeply into it, even Israel, France, Italy, and many other countries are quite ahead in the race.”
Speaking about Vision of SAPI Founder Pradeep Gupta a technocrat while explaining the selection of topic ‘Leveraging 5G for Defence’ said how could India, not be at the forefront of this race. What could be the best military use cases of 5G? What could be the challenges and how to overcome them? Responding to these Lt Gen Sabherwal made a detailed presentation on technology domains and key drivers of 5G adoption in the Armed forces.
Sabherwal also made a detailed use case analysis linking each case with the particular technology of 5G. He highlighted that there will be 17% CAGR growth in 5G applications thereby seeing explosive growth in Data as well as use cases. 5G Technology can be a game changer in times to come if it is leveraged effectively. Alok Tiwari, CEO Aivot spoke in detail about the introduction of 5G, and Sarang Nerker, CEO, Innosapien spoke about 5G applications in Metaverse. SAPI’s Co-founder Dr. Sangeeta Goel, said that there is so much incredible knowledge waiting to be discovered and known.
