New Delhi: Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh has taken over as the 17th Corps Commander of Rising Star Corps. He took the charge from Lt Gen PN Ananthanarayanan.

The Indian Army said in a tweet, "Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh took over as the General Officer Commanding of the #RisingStarCorps from Lt Gen PN Ananthanarayanan. On assuming command, the General Officer exhorted all Ranks to continue working with utmost zeal and enthusiasm."


Lt Gen Singh is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy and was commissioned in Dec 1987 into 4 Para (Special Force). In an illustrious career spanning a period of more than three and a half decades, the officer has held various Staff, Instructional and Command appointments.

The IX Corps is the youngest corps of the Indian Army. It is informally known as the Rising Star Corps. The Corps based at YoI Cantt near Dharmshala in Himachal Pradesh became operational on 01 September 2005.

In its area of responsibility (AOR), the Corps encompasses parts of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
