New Delhi: Indian Air Force's (IAF) C-17 Globemaster has brought back Indian students evacuated from the northeastern city of Sumy, in the war-hit Ukrain as part of Operation Ganga. The IAF flights embarked from Rzeszow in Poland and landed at the Hindon Air Base today afternoon.

This was the 18th flight that the Indian Air Force (IAF) has operated to evacuate people stranded in Ukraine.

India had sent three flights including one IAF flight to Poland to bring back 600 students who were evacuated from Sumy. All three flights returned today.

Meanwhile, New Delhi is all set to wind up its evacuation mission 'Operation Ganga' which has rescued over 20,000 stranded Indians in more than 80 special flights so far. The Operation has also rescued citizens of neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Nepal.

The Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar has hailed 'Operation Ganga.' In a tweet, Minister said, "Students from Sumy are returning today to India. Their evacuation was particularly challenging. Operation Ganga, undertaken at the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has delivered due to both leadership and commitment."

The minister also thanked  Ukraine's neighbouring countries, namely Romania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Moldova, for their giving exceptional support to India in evacuating its citizens from the eastern European nation.
