Northern Army Commander visits Galwan Valley and Ground Zero along LAC in Ladakh

New Delhi: Northern Army Commander Lt Gen. Upendra Dwivedi has visited ground zero in the forward areas along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh to review the security situation. This was his maiden visit to the Ladakh region after taking over charge as GOC-in-C of the strategic command.

In a tweet the Indian Army said, the Army Commander on Monday reviewed the security situation and interacted with all ranks of the security forces. He appreciated the professionalism and operational response towards the evolving threat matrix.

The Army also posted pictures of his interaction with soldiers, with the Indian flag and the Dogra flag featuring in the backdrop. Though the Army did not mention Galwan valley in its tweet, sources in the army establishment confirmed that Lt. Gen Dwivedi visited the Valley and interacted with the troops of Dogra Regiment there.

In June 2020, Galwan Valley had witnessed one of the worst violent clashes between the Armies of India and China in 45 years in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed. It led to a military standoff between the two countries.

Earlier, the Army Commander visited the prestigious Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre as Colonel of the Regiment of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts and paid obeisance at the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre War Memorial in remembrance of the gallant 'Nunoos' who have given the supreme sacrifice while serving the nation.
