Ministry of Defence notifies positive indigenisation list, read full details here
New Delhi: In an important move towards achieving Aatmnirbhar Defence (Self-reliance in defence) the government has notified a positive indigenisation list of sub-systems, assemblies, sub-assemblies and/or components. "The positive indigenisation list contains 2,500 imported items which have already been indigenised and 351 imported items which will be indigenised in next three years", the ministry said in an official statement issued Wednesday. The list has been notified by the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, as part of the efforts to achieve self-reliance in defence manufacturing and minimise imports by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), the statement further added.
This Aatmanirbhar initiative will save foreign exchange approximately equivalent to Rs. 3,000 cr every year.
Ministry said that the details of these items have been uploaded on the Srijan portal (You can download it by clicking here). Also that the items in the list will only be procured from Indian Industry after the timelines indicated in the list.
Two positive indigenisation lists of weapons, platforms, systems and ammunitions etc have already been notified by the Department of Military Affairs, in order to provide impetus to self-reliance in defence manufacturing, as part of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan', the statement added.
What is Positive Indigenisation List
Positive Indigenisation List is a list of the items, instruments, systems or sub-systems, or sub-assemblies and components that are being or were imported in India. After their inclusion in the positive indigenisation list, the mentioned items will be procured only from indigenous sources. The government has taken this step to achieve Aatmnirbhar Defence (Self-reliance in defence), also move towards making India a defence-exporting nation from being a defence-importing one.
