New Delhi: The Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Friday arrived in Srinagar to take stock of the security situation in the valley security ahead of Machail and Amarnath Yatra reviews security ahead of Machail and Amarnath Yatra. Lt Gen Dwivedi is on three days visit to Kashmir from May 20 to 22.

"The Northern Army Commander would be visiting forward posts on the Line of Control and the hinterland to review the overall security situation in the Kashmir Valley", an official statement released by Army said. The Army Commander accompanied by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen ADS Aujla visited various locations and formations in South Kashmir on Friday.

He was briefed on the counter-terrorism grid, development works and operational preparedness for Amarnath Yatra. The Army Commander during his interaction with the troops over tea complimented the soldiers for the conduct of just operations with precision, ensuring zero collateral damage. He was appreciative of the excellent Soldier–Citizen connect activities, which have resulted in an overall reduction in terrorist recruitments.

On May 19, Thursday  The General Officer Commanding of 16 Fotos, also known as Whiteknight Fotos, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh also chaired a review on the operational preparedness of the corps, besides the prevailing security situation, amid reports that terror groups are trying to sabotage this year's Amarnath Yatra.

A Defence spokesperson said in Jammu, "A security review meeting chaired by Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, GOC, White Knight Corps, was held at Nagrota. The meeting was attended by ADGP Mukesh Singh and senior officials of various intelligence agencies in the region."

White Knight Corps has the operational responsibility of a nearly 300-long-km Line of Control (LoC) south of Pir Panjal.
