New Delhi: The Indian naval ship, INS Chennai has concluded a two-days operational turnaround visit to Jeddah Islamic Port. The Indian Navy in a tweet informed today, INS Chennai reached the Jeddah Islamic Port on June 26. It was received by Saudi Naval and Indian Embassy officials on its arrival.

It further said, during the visit, Indian Navy Officers held meetings with Royal Saudi Navy and Border Guards. Besides, the ship were kept "Open for Visitors" during which school children visited the ship.

"Increased defence engagements are testimony to the robust India-Saudi bilateral relationship," Indian Navy added.

About INS Chennai:

INS Chennai is one of the "largest-ever" warships to be made in India, and it is also the last of the ships in the Project 15A of the Indian Navy. It is 164 metres long and weighs over 7,500 tonnes. It sails at a top speed of over 30 knots (around 55 km) per hour. The Kolkata-class destroyer is capable of engaging in anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare, land attacks, and air defence. The multi-mission ship is highly suited for expeditionary and surface strikes.The ship is designed to carry and operate up to two multi-role combat helicopters, which are expected to be a Sea King and an HAL Dhruv.

It is armed with supersonic surface-to-surface BrahMos missiles and Barak-8 Long-Rang Surface-to-Air missiles. The ship carries indigenously-developed anti-submarine weapons and sensors.
