New Delhi/ Vizag: Indian Navy showcased its strength and preparedness in the sea during the President Fleet Review 2022 in Visakhapatnam on Monday. The event also commemorated Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav as part of the 75th year of India's Independence celebrations. The theme of the 12th Presidential Fleet Review was 'Indian Navy — 75 Years on Service of the Nation'. President Ram Nath Kovind, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, reviewed the capabilities of naval warships and fighter aircraft during the mega event.

Every President once in his office undertakes the Presidential fleet Review which is a long-standing tradition followed by navies all across the world.

A total of 63 warships including INS Visakhapatnam and other Indian Naval warships, submarines, auxiliary vessels, assets of the Coast Guard, the Shipping Corporation of India and the National Institute of Ocean Technology, and over 50 aircraft participated in the review that included review at the anchorage, a steam past in a mobile column, a flypast, and parade of sails.

The vessels were anchored in a formation of four precise columns, as President Ram Nath Kovind reviewed the ships by steaming past them on board a naval vessel designated as the Presidential Yacht. Each ship rendered a salute to the Supreme Commander as the Yacht sailed past. Indian Naval aircraft flew simultaneously overhead the formation rendering their salute. The President embarked on the Presidential Yacht after a Ceremonial Guard of Honour and a 21-Gun Salute.

The PFR 2022 also witnessed enthralling waterfront activities, including a parade of sails, search and rescue demonstration at sea, aerobatics by Hawk aircraft and water para jumps by the Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of the Indian Navy.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues attended the review.
