New Delhi: The 18th Army to Army Staff talks between India and France were held Thursday in New Delhi. During the talks, both sides deliberated on issues related to military training, military education, joint exercises and defence cooperation between the two Armies.

The meeting was co-chaired by Assistant Chief of Integrated Staff, Int-C (Military Cooperation), Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) Air Vice Marshal B Manikantan and Head of Bilateral Cooperation South/Staff HQ Brigadier General Eric Peltier.

The Defence Ministry said in an official statement released Friday afternoon that the focus of the discussions was on developing new initiatives within the framework of the existing bilateral defence cooperation mechanism, as well as improving existing defence engagements.

Joint Staff Meetings between India and France is a forum intended to improve defence cooperation between the two countries through regular talks at the strategic and operational levels.

India and France share a close and expanding strategic relationship. It is pertinent to mention here that on April 15 only the 20th edition of the two-day long India-France Joint Staff talks took place in a nice, warm, and courteous setting in Paris. The talks were focused on new initiatives within the framework of the existing bilateral defence cooperation mechanism, as well as on improving current defence engagements.

The Joint Staff Consultations between India and France are a forum intended to improve defence cooperation between the two countries through frequent talks at the operational and strategic levels.
