New Delhi: The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral UVMP Perera has called on Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande in New Delhi on May 24, 2023. During the meeting, both the sides discussed bilateral issues pertaining to military ties.
The Indian Army in a tweet said, "General Manoj Pande #COAS interacted with Vice Admiral UVMP Perera, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy at New Delhi today."
"COAS discussed issues of mutual interest & ways to enhance existing bilateral relations between both the Defence Forces," it further added.
Earlier, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera paid solemn homage at Amar Jawan Jyoti in National War Memorial in New Delhi. He conveyed sincere gratitude to brave hearts of Indian Peace Keeping Force for their valiant service & supreme sacrifice during Operation Pawan.
It may be recalled that Vice Admiral Perera was appointed as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy on December 18, 2022, after being elevated to the rank of three-star Admiral.
The appointment was made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera is a product of the Royal College, Colombo. He joined the Sri Lanka Navy in the Executive Branch in 1987 as an Officer Cadet of the 05th Intake of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
He was awarded the 'Sword of Honour' for the best in the batch upon successful completion of naval training from the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. He was commissioned in the rank of Acting Sub Lieutenant in 1989 and graduated from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Defence Studies) with honours.
