New Delhi: Delhi based Think tank 'Security And Policy Initiatives ( SAPI)' organised a webinar on 'Drone-Technology and Applications' in the national capital. The focus of the webinar was on Military and Agriculture Drones.

The keynote speakers included Lt Gen Narayanan (retd.) for military drones and Prof SD Gorantiwar for agriculture drone.

In his address, Lt Gen TSA Narayanan, who has been instrumental in evolving concept of Swarm Drome for Offensive Operations in the Army, touched on the evolution of drones and also talked about the critical role drones are now playing in tilting the war either way like in case of Armenia Azerbaijan war; Russia Ukraine war.

While mentioning about Characteristics of Military Drones he explained how Drones are used by each Arm of the Army (viz Arty, Infy. Engrs, Mech Infy, Medical  etc)  for Reconnaissance, Targeting, Target Acquisition, Force Protection, Training & Simulation, Communication, Signal Jamming, Logistics,  Mapping Maintenance support and Remote Operation etc.

Prof Gorantiwar highlighted various uses of drones like Spraying, Mapping etc besides Technology involved and  Challenges of it. He also  outlined Drone Operating Parameters, Regulations, permissions  governing Drone Operations etc. How Drone mapping can be combined with Satellite Imageries to enable precision farming and hyperspectral farming was explained too.

In his opening remarks SAPI founder Pradeep Gupta briefed about SAPI. He highlighted that  SAPI's Mission is to generate Knowledge and ideas in  pursuance of which SAPI has been researching, conducting Webinar, discussions etc with the stakeholders especially to create impact on ground, besides SAPI publishes blogs, articles etc and  participates in other foras too.
