Indian Army celebrates 247th Army Ordnance Corps Day

New Delhi: Indian Army today celebrated the 247th raising day of the Army Ordnance Corps. Chief of the Army Staff MM Naravane has greeted the Corps on the occasion.

The Indian Army said in a tweet, "General MM Naravane #COAS and All Ranks of #IndianArmy convey best wishes to All Ranks, Veterans & Families of Army Ordnance Corps on the occasion of their 247th Corps Day."

Director General of Ordnance Services and Senior Colonel Commandant Lt Gen RKS Kushwaha paid homage to brave hearts of Indian Armed Forces  at National War Memorial on the occasion.

Army Ordnance Corps provides logistics support to the Indian Army during war and peace. The logistics function of the Army Ordnance Corps involves the mechanics of provisioning and procuring of all stores required to raise and maintain an efficient and effective fighting army.

The formal recognition of Army Ordnance Corps was with the establishment of 'Board of Ordnance' on 8th April 1775.

Over the years, the Board of Ordnance underwent a number of transformations and in 1922 it came to be known as the Indian Army Ordnance Corps. Once India became a Republic in 1950, the prefix 'Indian' was dropped and the organisation has been known as the Army Ordnance Corps ever since.

The AOC manages a complex and dynamic inventory comprising approximately 5 lac items and has always delivered cogent results by ensuring an uninterrupted supply chain, whatever be the constraints.
