New Delhi: Indian Coast Guard Chief VS Pathania has inaugurated the first-ever (in Kerala) coast guard jetty in Kochi on Tuesday. The ICG said in a tweet "India Coast Guard jetty inaugurated by DG VS Pathania, PTM, TM DGICG at Kochi. The Jetty (220 Mtrs X 15 Mtrs) is located in the harbour of Kochi with a maintained depth of 7 Mtrs."

Cochin Port Trust has constructed the coast guard jetty which has a dimension of 220 Mtrs x 15 Mtrs and is located in the harbour of Kochi with a maintained depth of 7 Mtrs. It will facilitate the swift deployment of Indian Coast Guard ships.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, DG Pathania said the jetty will ensure seamless ICG operations in the sea areas of Kerala and Lakshadweep Islands.

As the Port of Kochi is strategically located Indian Coast Guard has increased its assets here in recent times. It now maintains four Offshore Patrol Vessels, three Fast Patrol Vessels, two Interceptor Boats and two Auxiliary Barges which are based at Kochi.
