Sri Nagar: The commander of strategic Chinar Corps of Indian Army Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai has reviewed the security and operational preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra that is beginning next month.

The Army said the corps commander was accompanied by commanders of the counter-insurgency Kilo and Victor forces.

The corps in a tweet said, "#ChinarCorpsCdr Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai reviewed the security & operational preparedness along both the northern & southern routes for #Amarnathyatra2023 today."

The Amarnath Yatra is a 60-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave in south Kashmir Himalayas. It is scheduled to commence on July 1 from the twin tracks–the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district (southern route) and the 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district (northern route).

Lt Gen Ghai was briefed on the multi-tier security set-up, medical arrangements, emergency response mechanism and other infrastructure development for the successful conduct of the yatra, the Army said.

Lieutenant General Ghai has taken command of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army, assuming responsibility for the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir.

In a ceremony held at the Chinar Corps Memorial in Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar, Lt Gen Ghai paid homage and addressed the troops, urging them to continue their unwavering dedication to pursuing peace and stability in the region.

Lieutenant General Amardeep Singh Aujla, who previously served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 Corps, has relinquished his post and been appointed as the new Master General Sustenance (MGS) at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi.
