Visakhapatnam/ New Delhi: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) celebrated its 81st Foundation Day on Tuesday by dedicating its 200th constructed ship 'Balbir' to the Indian Navy and 2000th repaired ship 'SCI Pawan' of SCI to the nation under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

In commemoration of the glorious history of over eight decades,  has released a book on '200 ships and beyond'. As a part of the green initiative, three information technology-based applications namely, annual property returns, NIC mail access from Local Area Network (LAN) PC and dynamic payment QR code for tax invoices to customers for the benefit of the employees were launched.

Speaking to the Defence Watch on the occasion, HSL CMD Cmde Hemant Khatri said "It is a turning point in the history of Shipyard. We have achieved highest ever VoP (value of production) and the highest ever profit during 2032-22. Reforming with Intent, Performing with Integrity & Transforming with Intensity is our motto".

"HSL has set itself on the path of transformation and is emerging as a 'new HSL'. The major reforms undertaken at HSL in the past few months have propelled its growth and created extensive opportunities for Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs)", the CMD added.

The 50-tonne bollard pull tug sailed out on 08th January 2022 with HSL engineers on board for delivery to the Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard (Mumbai). The tug designed and built by HSL under IRS class can achieve a speed of up to12 knots. During the first sea trials itself, the ship proved its capabilities and achieved performance greater than the contractual requirements.
