Synopsis: Man-Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM) has been successfully flight-tested by DRDO. Rather known as fire and forget missiles, MPATGM is a 3rd Generation Fire-and-Forget Anti-Tank Guided Missile derived from Nag ATGM. Its flight test, conducted on Wednesday, has validated the minimum range successfully.

New Delhi: Wednesday was planned to be a day of action at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). First, the defence research organisation successfully flight-tested a new generation Akash missile and then a fire and forget Man-Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM). "DRDO successfully flight-tested indigenously developed low weight, fire and forget Man-Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM) on Wednesday. The missile was launched from a man-portable launcher integrated with a thermal site and the target was mimicking a tan", an official statement released by the Ministry said.

The missile hit the target in direct attack mode and destroyed it with precision. The test has validated the minimum range successfully. All the mission objectives were met. The missile has already been successfully flight-tested for the maximum range.

The missile is incorporated with the state-of-the-art miniaturized infrared imaging seeker along with advanced avionics. The test brings the development of indigenous third-generation man-portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile close to completion.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and the Industry for the successful test. The Department of Defence's (R&D) Secretary and Chairman of DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team for the successful test.
