Army Chief dials his Japanese Counterpart, discusses defence cooperation

New Delhi: Chief of the Army Staff General MM Naravane on Thursday held a video telephonic meeting with Chief of Staff of the Ground Self-Defence Force of Japan General Yoshida Yoshihide. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral defence cooperation.

The Indian Army in a tweet said, "General MM Naravane, #COAS had a video telephonic interaction with General Yoshida Yoshihide, Chief of Staff, Ground Self-Defence Force, #Japan and discussed aspects of bilateral Defence Cooperation."

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will undertake an official visit to New Delhi on Saturday. He is scheduled to participate in the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit during his two-day visit. This will be the first meeting between the two Prime ministers.

Earlier, Both the countries held the 6th Act East Forum meeting in New Delhi yesterday. The meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to India Satoshi Suzuki was chaired by Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla. Both the countries exchanged views on possible new areas of cooperation between both countries.
