New Delhi: India on Wednesday tested the extended-range variant of BrahMos cruise missile from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean. The missile was fired from a land-based launcher and it hit its target with pinpoint accuracy.

Defence Officials informed that Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, who was in the Island territory of Andaman & Nicobar to review operational preparedness, congratulated on the successful test-firing of surface to surface BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, the only tri-service theatre command of the Indian Armed Forces, witnessed the launch.

The test comes days after a missile was inadvertently fired from an Indian Air Force base during a maintenance drill that had landed in neighbouring Pakistan.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is considered the world's fastest operational system in its class.
