All you need to know about the first skin bank for Armed Forces

DW Bureau

New Delhi: A new skin bank facility has been opened by the Army Hospital (R&R) in New Delhi. The first-of-its-kind facility is aimed at providing a better treatment option to service members and their families suffering from severe burn injuries and other skin conditions.

It added that the new skin bank will be dedicated to the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of skin grafts. It has been set up to ensure that the Armed Forces have access to the most advanced skin replacement therapies available.

The facility will be staffed by a team of highly trained medical professionals including plastic surgeons, tissue engineers, and specialised technicians.

It has been emphasised that the facility will not only improve the quality of care by ensuring the integrity and reliability of the skin grafts, but also strengthen the ability of the Armed Forces to support those who have been injured seriously.
