New Delhi: Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande interacted with Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of UK on April 17, 2023 in New Delhi.
Indian Army said in a tweet, "During the meeting, both the sides discussed aspects of further enhancing the defence cooperation between two Nations"
Admiral Sir Tony Radakin also called on Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane in New Delhi.
Earlier, the British CDS visited National War Memorial where he paid homage to fallen soldiers of Indian Armed Forces and expressed his sincere respect to brave souls for their supreme sacrifice.
India and UK share strong defence ties. In October 2022, both countries had the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Joint Working Group in an effort to further defence cooperation. This has been set up to strengthen security and defence partnership through industrial cooperation.
The UK has issued its first Open General Export License in the Indo-Pacific region to India. This will help in shortening delivery times for defence procurement.
Both countries are working towards establishing a portfolio of projects that can be done collaboratively, as these will help to support the development of new technologies and capabilities as has been agreed in the UK-India 2030 Roadmap released by the British government.
In critical defence technologies the UK is considered to be a world leader especially in jet engines development and electric propulsion technology and the UK has expressed its readiness to share this expertise with India supported by respective industries.
