New Delhi: India has successfully conducted two different tests of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile from its naval warship and fighter jet. While the Indian Navy tested the anti-ship version of the missile from the guided-missile destroyer INS Delhi, the Air Force tested the air-launched variant from a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter.

According to the Indian Navy, the test of the anti-ship variant of the missile was conducted using an upgraded modular launcher onboard INS Delhi. It said, "Successful maiden Brahmos firing by INS Delhi from an upgraded modular launcher once again demonstrated long-range strike capability of Brahmos along with validation of integrated Network Centric Operations from frontline platforms."

The Indian Air Force also conducted live firing of the Brahmos missile from a Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft on the Eastern seaboard. The IAF said the missile hit the target, a decommissioned Indian Navy ship, with accuracy and precision. It was undertaken in close coordination with the Indian Navy. More than 40 Sukhoi fighter jets have to be integrated with the air-launched variant of the Brahmos.

On March 5, the Indian Navy's warship INS Chennai had successfully carried out the test-firing of an advanced version of Brahmos supersonic cruise missile in the Indian Ocean. Indian Navy has deployed Brahmos on almost all of its surface platforms as the main weapon system of the warships.
